Taser Class

Posted February 28, 2008 * Comments(2)

Well, well, well.

I finally was able to attend taser training, and had a fairly good time. The class consisted of a 4 hour powerpoint presentation, followed by 1 hour of actual taser use.

I didn’t get to shoot anyone because there weren’t enough people, and those who got shot had ‘dibs’ on shooting someone else. As I said in previous posts, I didn’t get shot, and I still think it was the right decision.

The great thing is that we were able to take video, and I have a short clip of what I took that day. I am expecting to get a better video edited and uploaded within the next couple of weeks. Until then…

Busy, busy, busy

I have been neglecting this site lately. It’s true.

I was working on a new site for employees at the jail, so I have been trying to get that all wrapped up. It’s been a bugger. Mostly, I have been dealing with how to lock it down for only people that are part of the Corrections Guild (also known as a Union), so we can talk about guild issues and not have anyone else eavesdrop on the conversation (like my administration).

It’s fun, because I love trouble shooting, but it takes time.

Jamie’s been sick for the past couple of days, and slept all of Monday. She thought it was Monday today (Tuesday), and sent Ryleigh to dance class a day late. Pretty funny.

Work has been interesting.

WA Department of Corrections did a warrant sweep in Cowlitz county, so our population is way over capacity. Housing new bookings is like playing ‘musical inmates’. “Drunks over there, angry people over here, no wait, angry people up there…”  You get the idea. We’re full.

A little guy came in this last weekend who was REALLY drunk. He was standing and talking fine, but you could just tell that he was totally crocked. He was about 120lb, so it was funny when he kept talking about beating our asses. Although he did call me sexy (twice), I don’t think he was in his right mind.

I had him give a breath sample for our Portable Breath Test, and he read out as a .302. For those of you that don’t know, that is almost 4 times the legal limit to drive, and YES, he was driving. Whenever a person comes in over a .250, the officer has to take them to the hospital. When the officer got back with this guy, he was in the ‘tired’ phase of drunk, so completing the booking was impossible. We let him go to bed. No use in riling him up for nothing.

The next night, there was a note on his door that at noon, he was still reading a .090, which is still too drunk to drive. Twelve hours later, and he was still drunk. All I can say is, “Wow!”.

I took Monday night off, to stay home with Jamie, and I have training on Wednesday, so the weekend would have been a short one otherwise. It’s TASER training. Should be interesting, and NO, I’m not going to get tased, so don’t ask. I might have some video of others getting tased though. We’ll see.

As far as the employee website, it’s CorrectionsGuild.com. It’s not fully operational, but if you work at the jail, you can apply for membership, and get a password sent via e-mail when it’s done. Otherwise, you can look here for updates. It’s up to you.

Hope everyone has a good week.

If you work in the mental health field, please don’t kill me… slowly. Make it quick.

Enjoy.
